As of now, we can all expect certain products to be announced during Apple’s WWDC and Apple did not disappoint. We saw exciting new iOS 16 features which allow for more personalised applications on our iPhones, ground-breaking new health-tracking features on Apple Watch and the newest generation of M2 chips for MacBooks. Yes…we did say there was a lot! The WWDC is a multi-day event with the main keynote on Monday 6th, we do expect other presentations and sessions to follow.

iOS 16

Apple has marketed iOS 16 as “personal is powerful” with revamped and customisable features to provide a seamless journey – particularly with the lock screen interface. New features allow you to edit, add and change design elements like font style and colour for a more personalised look to your iPhone.

Live activities are the new addition which allows you to pin and manage notifications like Uber, sport match scores without having to unlock your device. Notifications have also been moved to the bottom of the screen and expand upwards to allow users to have a wider view for other activities on the Lock Screen. Alongside “Focus” users will be able to streamline their notification system tailored to their needs. .

The feature that most users are already crazy about is the ability for iPhone users to edit and unsend messages. We have seen apps like WhatsApp and Instagram providing users a snippet however, Apple has finally granted access on iMessage for greater control.

The “buy now, pay later” trend has made its way into iOS 16 with Apple’s new Apple Pay Later which will allow customers to purchase items in instalments using Apple Pay.

The new generation of CarPlay brings a more cohesive experience alongside your iPhone with widget displays and more, unique to the driver. This is set to be live in late 2023.

iOS 16 is soon to become available this fall for iPhone 8 and later models. 

macOS Ventura

Many features available on iOS 16 and iPadOS have also been replicated in macOS for seamless continuity however, Apple have previewed some cutting-edge editions which will benefit many Apple ecosystem users.

Mailbox features have seen new improvements with being able to schedule, undo and follow up sent emails; these can also be found on iOS 16 for iPhone.

Stage Manager has been newly introduced to macOS to allow you to focus your tasks by reframing your applications for a more organised work-set up. Switch between apps quickly and rearrange your layout for optimal efficiency. 

Continuity camera is the latest tool to powerfully connect your iPhone and Mac as one. No wires, just simply bring iPhone close to your Mac and it automatically switches to iPhone as the camera input. With that, FaceTime has also become hands-free to allow users to readily switch between their iPhone or Mac for calls at their own convenience. 

Freeform in productivity allows Mac and iPad users to collaborate simultaneously to sketch and jot down ideas to bring them to life. Files, audio, videos and many more can be shared via Freeform to create a cohesive experience.

M2 Chip for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro

The latest iteration of Apple Silicon processing – the M2 Chip. Apple has improved its M1 chipset with numerous performance upgrades of 18% faster CPUs and supporting 24GB of memory. More speed for all your apps. Apple says the ‌M2‌ is significantly faster at lower power usage levels allowing M2 devices to work better for longer. M2‌ also includes an improved media engine to playback multiple streams of 4K and 8K video delivering better image noise reduction on visuals.

We see the M2 debut with Apple’s new MacBook Air line with striking new contemporary colours and ultra-thin for lightweight carrying. Colours include midnight, space grey, silver and starlight. Also available for MacBook Pro 13-inch. 

watchOS 9

Gives more whilst on the go. The Apple watch update comes with many customisable elements to ensure that users can personalise their health data according to their heart rate, workouts and multisport activities. Whether it's swimming, cycling or running, the watch OS 9 has improved to enhance your health tracking capabilities. 

New watch faces have also been introduced into the update for personalisation. 

We have enjoyed all the new announcements of Apple's ever-growing products and that was only the beginning. We soon hope to see many of these products and updates come live so we can use and interact with our tech in a new and exciting way.
